A lot of Redditors hate the Reddit IPO

Feb 27, 2024

Reddit has recently filled out the IPO and it has become a big controversy for Reddit users. Reddit has filled the S-1 form and after that, it has become a big point of discussion for the users. In that S-1 form, Reddit has mentioned about r/WallStreetBets. They are also offering the power users to buy the stock before they get debuts on the public market.

If you are a tech person then you would be able to understand the fact of how Reddit is trying to save their stock in the market. By offering the shares to the power holders they are trying to ameliorate their risks.

If we talk about the S-1 document, is filled with the US Securities and Exchange Commission when a company goes public. It will disclose all types of things like revenue figures, risk factors, and key data about the business.

Recently one user has raised issues with using Reddit. He said that- ”Most of the news subreddits have the articles posted in the comments. There’s a huge copyright issue associated with that and I don’t see how Reddit avoids that when they’re publicly listed and are sitting on piles of money”.

Also, he has raised the point “What is going public going to do to improve Reddit? This is just a cash grab by ownership and the money raised isn’t going to go into improving the site or business in any way.”

Now, if we look at the r/technology, the top comment on this was “The beginning of the end”. There are uncertain things that are hard to predict for now. The management can take several steps to make the company profitable. Also, there is a question in everyone’s mind about- which subreddits might be banned, how much users might have to pay to post, and many others.

One user has also called it a scam program. They are also upset with their move to erase Aaron Swartz as a co-founder. The chance of giving the power users to buy the shares can be a big move by the management of Reddit. The users are asking serious questions about Reddit as a business. Reddit was never a profitable business. Manu users are claiming that Reddit has turned into profits.

The directed program of Reddit basically works for qualified users. This program is also a reason the Redditors hate the Reddit IPO. When the users want to register for their program, the company will send them an email asking for their basic personal information. So that they can pre-register for the program. After a few weeks, the qualified users will get an email from the company for further instructions.

As per Dan M. ”The share program“seems like a gimmick to me honestly,” who also received the offer to buy the shares. He also says “While the rest of the internet is all a giant mess, Reddit still feels like a place where you can learn things and have fun,”.

Reddit can be considered a community for expert to share their thoughts but ys a good community is not always a successful business. However for now Redditors hate the Reddit IPO.
