We believe OpenAI’s chatbot store is now filling up with spam

Mar 21, 2024

Earlier in November 2023, the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman announced about the GPT store. He described that the developers can now build their own GPT for fun and productivity. But of course, it requires a premium version of ChatGPT.

He said-” Because [GPTs] combine instructions, expanded knowledge, and actions, they can be more helpful to you,” “You can build a GPT … for almost anything.”

Well, after this announcement, the developers have tried making their own version of GPT, and it seems to be working. To build their own GPT, you don’t need to be according expert or to have advanced knowledge of computer science. Even the process of listing the GPTs to the GPT store is quite easy for the developers. They simply have to create their user profile and then submit their GPT to the OpenAI review system.

A spokesperson said -” We use a combination of automated systems, human review, and user reports to find and assess GPTs that potentially violate our policies. Violations can lead to actions against the content or your account, such as warnings, sharing restrictions, or ineligibility for inclusion in GPT Store or monetization.”

Simple process affected the quality:

In January, OpenAI has disclosed that there are around 3 billion GPTs. well, this is so because the process is very simple and there are no such strong barriers to creating their own GPTs. It is somehow good to make something knowledgeable but this bulk quantity has affected the quality of GPTs, also it is adhering to OpenAI’s own terms.

Even many creators have created ripped GPTs from many movies and TV shows. Even the GPT store is now filled with many GPTs that claim they can bypass the AI content written by AI tools. Some like Humanizer Pro, which is very famous on the GPT store claim to humanize the content to bypass AI detectors like Copyleaks, Gpt KIt, and others.

Even these GPTs are asking the users to go for their premium plans to get better services. However, many studies show that these tools are not reliable and accurate and these are against the rules of openAI. Such kinds of GPT are filling the GPT store with spam GPT and also affecting its quality.

The OpenAI spokesperson said: “GPTs that are for academic dishonesty, including cheating, are against our policy. This would include GPTs that are stated to be for circumventing academic integrity tools like plagiarism detectors. We see some GPTs that are for ‘humanizing’ text. We’re still learning from the real-world use of these GPTs, but we understand there are many reasons why users might prefer to have AI-generated content that doesn’t ‘sound’ like AI.”
