Apple is seeking a partnership with Google to incorporate Google’s Gemini AI engine into the iPhone. Those who are familiar with this matter have shared with resources. However, it is not something unexpected as Apple’s CEO Tim Crook has already stated that they are going to make a significant AI announcement this year and Apple is investing towards generative AI.
Well if Apple partners with Google, then it is not going to be the first deal between tech giants Google and Apple. Google is already in partnership with Apple as the preferred search engine provider on iPhones for the Safari browser.
As per the sources, companies are having negotiations regarding the Gemini licensing to power some new features coming to the iPhone software this year. Also, the branding-related things have not been decided yet. Earlier, Apple also held a discussion with OpenAI about using its generative AI model ChatGPT in its upcoming iPhone 18.

Apple is lagging behind in the generative AI industry compared to its rivals Google and Microsoft. But in its recent announcement after the death of Project Titan, the company stated that Apple is significantly investing in AI and later this year they will announce something very exciting. However, the company has not shared any details yet.
Apple’s partnership with Google will be a big milestone for the search giant AI chatbot Gemini. As it will potentially reach over 2 billion active Apple devices. Along with that Google has also partnered with Apple’s rival Samsung to integrate Gemini into their Smartphones. Google has also launched Gemini with its own Pixel series.
Google Gemini has been facing controversies for the last month for generating wrong historical images. Even the CEO of Google later came and announced that the response of Gemini was “Unpredictable” and they paused its image-generation feature. Now recently Google has also paused Gemini to answer election-related queries in countries like the US and India where upcoming 2024 elections are there, to control the deepflakes.

Apple is also working on its own generative AI model Apple GPT and LLM model Ajax. however, these technologies are still in their infancy. At this point in time Google’s offering to integrate Gemini in its upcoming iPhone 18 can be a great deal for both of them.
Sources are trying to get in touch with the tech giants to get more details about this partnership but the companies are not making any official comments on this news.
