OpenAI has announced a new deal with the Financial Times, a UK-based news publisher. With this content licensing deal, Financial Times has become the first UK publisher to crack a deal with ChatGPT. The publishers are describing this deal as a “strategic partnership and licensing agreement”.
Today on 26 April Financial Times has announced a Press Release to make this announcement. FT Group CEO John Ridding said,” This is an important agreement in a number of respects.” It recognizes the value of our award-winning journalism and will give us early insights into how content is surfaced through AI. We have long been a leader in news media innovation, pioneering the subscription model and engagement technologies, and this partnership will help keep us at the forefront of developments in how people access and use information”, he continued.
However, this move from OpenAI in partnership with a news house is not surprising. Back in the time, the AI company had also partnered with other news houses so that they could use their content to train the AI model.

Many sources are linking this news with the New York Times. Last December they filed a case against OpenAI for using their content to train the AI model without their consent. So this can be a way to minimize the risk of further lawsuits. With this step, ChatGPT makers are trying to follow a convenient way to train their model.
Talking more about the Financial Times and the usage of AI in their house is also an interesting story.
