Can AI truly generate Music truly like the artists? Well, this question is now rising in everyone’s mind after Beyoncé made a new statement during the press release of her new album ‘Cowboy Carter’.

Beyoncé’s new album ‘Cowboy Carter’ has been rolled out and with its release, it jumped to number 2 on Apple Music. This new album is breaking records on all streaming platforms and even Beyoncé called herself, “the best music I ever made.”

During the press release, Beyoncé made an unexpected statement which is now questioning the use of AI in the music industry.

“The joy of creating music is that there are no rules,” says Beyoncé. “The more I see the world evolving the more I felt a deeper connection to purity. With artificial intelligence and digital filters and programming, I wanted to go back to real instruments, and I used very old ones. I didn’t want some layers of instruments like strings, especially guitars, and organs perfectly in tune. I kept some songs raw and leaned into folk. All the sounds were so organic and human, everyday things like the wind, snaps, and even the sound of birds and chickens, the sounds of nature.”

In this fast-paced world where AI music generator tools are claiming to generate music and songs in a few minutes, Beyoncé took joy in creating music when there were no rules. If we look into the details, these AI music generator tools are trained on immense data.

Companies like OpenAI and stability.ai are using large databases and original songs to train these AI tools which eventually eat the jobs of these artists. Even though companies are training these models on artists’ work without their consent. With her comments on AI technology, Beyoncé showed the world their strong feelings about these technologies. Many artists like her have the same feeling about these AI tools.

Further in her statements, Beyoncé discussed about her love for music and how she loves to experiment with her music. She said, “My process is that I typically have to experiment,” Beyoncé says. “I enjoy being open to having the freedom to get all aspects of things I love out and so I worked on many songs.  I recorded probably 100 songs. Once that is done, I am able to put the puzzle together and realize the consistencies and the common themes, and then create a solid body of work.”
