Google March 2024 Core Update

The latest core March update by Google is more complex than ever and it will take around one month to roll out completely. The company has shared some new spam policies for websites that are creating a negative impact on Google search results.

“The March 2024 core update is a more complex update than our usual core updates, involving changes to multiple core systems.” was posted by Chris Nelson in a blog post.

In fact, Google is updating the core ranking system so” there will be more fluctuations in rankings than with a regular core update, as different systems get fully updated and reinforce each other.”- he added. Google has also clarified that for those who are creating useful and original content, there is nothing out of the box for them.

The recent Google March update SEO is focused on two big factors- one is to improve the quality ranking and the other is updating the improved spam policies.

“We’re making algorithmic enhancements to our core ranking systems to ensure we surface the most helpful information,” said Elizabeth Tucker. “We’re updating our spam policies to keep the lowest-quality content out of Search,” She added.

Google March update: New Spam Policies

In the core March update, google announced three new spam policies for bad practice content: Expired domain abuse, Scaled content abuse, and Site reputation abuse. As a content creator, you must review the spam policies.

Chris Nelson posted in the blog that-” If affected by a spam manual action, site owners will receive a notice through their registered Search Console account and can apply to have the action reconsidered.”

Scaled Content Abuse Policy

Google said that if you are producing content just for the click and not for helping the people, whether written by humans, automation, or a combination of both- it falls under a violation of policy. This new policy is basically built on the previous “automatically generated content” policy.

“Our new policy is meant to help people focus more clearly on the idea that producing content at scale is abusive if done for the purpose of manipulating search rankings and that this applies whether automation or humans are involved.”- said Nelson.

Site Reputation Abuse is Considered to be Spam Now

As per the Google March update SEO, some also named it ‘Parasite SEO’, Google has now a new policy for them.  “Such content ranking highly in Search can confuse or mislead visitors who may have vastly different expectations for the content on a given website,”- Google.

In his post, Nelson has cleared that all the third-party content will not be considered a violation of the policy but it will be applicable to those who are intended to manipulate Search rankings.

Google has made this policy very clear by giving an Example- “many publications host advertising content that is intended for their regular readers, rather than to primarily manipulate Search rankings. Sometimes called “native advertising” or “advertorial”, this kind of content typically wouldn’t confuse regular readers of the publication when they find it on the publisher’s site directly or when arriving at it from Google’s search results.”

Expired Domain Abuse is now a Spam:

With the Google March update, expired domain name is purchased and repurposed primarily to manipulate Search rankings by hosting content that will be considered spam.

Nelson added, “It’s a practice employed by people who hope to rank well in Search with low-value content by using the past reputation of a domain name”. However, creators can still use the old domain name for useful content only.

The Goal for Improvements

With the core Google March update SEO, the main goal is to improve the search results of the users. These new spam policies will also be helpful for those who are genuinely creating helpful content for the people. With the new updated spam policies, genuine websites will now get more traffic.

“We’ll update the Search Status Dashboard to confirm when the rollouts are complete. We’ll also announce and open up a form after the update has concluded for any specific feedback people might have.”- Said Google.
