“This API enables multi-vendor SR through a common set of inputs and outputs, allowing a single code path to activate a variety of solutions, including Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS,” he added. Super-resolution is a technique that increases the resolution and visual quality of the games. It is also helpful in reducing the burden of Graphics cards while playing games.

More  about DirectSR:

DirectSR is the “missing link” that developers were waiting for when applying to SR integration. Developers can now easily integrate upscaling technology from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. Using one API instead of there is going to be a more efficient way for the game developers. This feature will now work with the graphics cards of Nvidia, AMD, and Intel.

As per Microsoft, the DirectSR will be available soon. During a developer session at the coming Game Developers Conference (GDC), they are planning to showcase a sneak peek of its work in games. “A DirectSR public preview will be available soon via the Agility SDK, which allows developers to light up new DirectX features without waiting for an OS update.”- said Microsoft.

However, if DirectSR lives up to the claim of Microsoft, it is going to be a big change in the game development industry. It will definitely open up the scope of more AI advancement in Games. Apart from this, it is also going to be a piece of big news for game lovers who, no matter what GPU they have, like adjusting graphics settings to get the optimum performance and visual quality on their computers.
