Apr 9, 2024

The most awaited Android update is finally here. Google has now launched its upgraded updates in the Android “Find my device” feature. For now, the company is launching the upgraded network in the US and Canada. But soon this feature will be available globally for Android users.

As promised last year, android has finally launched its upgraded Find My Device network, which will similarly work like Apple’s Find My Device network. This feature will be available for the devices running on Android 9+ versions. With this new Android upgraded Find My Device network, users can find their lost devices even if the phone is offline by taking help from other Android devices. Even the Google Pixel 8 users will be able to find the devices even if they are switched off.

Google’s VP of Engineering, Erik Kay, wrote in a blog post, “Find My Device is secure by default and private by design,” “Multi-layered protections built into the Find My Device network help keep you safe and your personal information private while keeping you in control of the devices connected to the Find My Device network. This includes end-to-end encryption of location data as well as aggregated device location reporting, a first-of-its-kind safety feature that provides additional protection against unwanted tracking back to a home or private location”, he continued.

What’s new in Android’s upgraded Find My Device network?

This new feature will start working in May and also supports Bluetooth tracker tags from Chipolo and Pebblebee. Apart from your Android device, you can now find your other accessories like wallet or keys. You can add different accessories under tags and like iOS users you can also share these tags with other users.

The Find My Device tracker also supports prevention from the unwanted tracking of your devices. These tags to look for accessories are quite handy and easy to use. But also if it gets in some wrong hands then it can be misused also. But the network tracker will give you an alert. Also, it limits the number of tracking tags to prevent the misuse of this feature.

Google is not limiting this new Android’s upgraded Find My Device network only to Android devices. But soon it is going to be available in Headphones from JBL and Sony. These will receive a software update soon so that they can also be located by using these devices.

The network will be starting rolling out in the US and Canada and soon will be available across the world.
