Apple laid off 600 employees as a result when Apple’s Cancelled Car Project
Recently apple has laid off 600 of its employees as a result of its ambitious car project ‘Titan’ and watch display project. The news comes out with a state filing of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) reports submitted to the California Employment Development Department. However, an Apple spokesperson has denied commenting on the exact number of employees affected by this layoff.
As per the reports, Apple has filed 8 different eight separate reports to the WARN. In that report 87 employees were affected by its screen development project and the rest were affected by the decision when Apple Canceled the Car Project.

Mark Gurman posted on x (formerly Twitter) saying,” Seems like there is some confusion about this based on the follow-on reports. These are the folks who were already laid off from the car and display projects. This isn’t another/new layoff. The news here is we for the first time have a number. That’s it.”
When Apple announced the end of one of its major moonshot projects,” Project Titan”. Resources were expecting a layoff from the tech giant. Even at that time apple has asked the employees to look for some other project in the company soon. Many employees were shifted to companies’ generative AI projects and the rest were affected by this decision. Sources are saying that both of these projects ended as a result of cost concerns and engineering challenges.
Initially, the car project was aimed to be one of the most high-profile projects of Apple. This project was expected to be a fully automated car project with advanced interiors and electric vehicle capacity. But later Apple introduced a new design for their car project unannounced that it will not be a fully automotive car but there will be some manual feature. But later apple introduced a new design for its project.
But at the end of Feb, the company announced the end of its project and asked its employees to look for other opportunities in the company. Along with that apple has also ended its smartwatch initiative. The company has ended working up on its microLED displays for the Apple Watch.

As per the sources,” 371 employees were let go from Apple’s primary car-related office in Santa Clara, California. It is reported that dozens more were impacted across multiple satellite locations. In some cases, former members of the Apple car team were reassigned to other projects, such as artificial intelligence or personal robotics initiatives.”
